Magic Bullet Suite Used on Award-Winning Film Short

San Francisco, CA, May 30, 2003 – Red Giant Software today announced that HYPER, a film short from Blueprint Film, will be screened at the 2003 Seattle Film Festival. Using Magic Bullet Suite, filmmakers Michael Canzoniero and Marco Ricci achieved a cinematic look that has been key to the film’s success. HYPER was also selected for the Aspen Shortsfest and was awarded the prize for “Best Short Short” making it one of a handful of films eligible for Academy Award consideration in 2004.

Magic Bullet Suite consists of a set of five Adobe After Effects plug-ins that take original, high-quality digital video and converts it to 24 frames per second. The process reduces many of the artifacts present in digital video footage. The software, which works on both Macintosh and Windows platforms, has been used on numerous productions selected for prestigious US and international film festivals.

HYPER takes a humorous look at the role time plays in contemporary urban life. The film follows the journey of a self-proclaimed time-efficiency expert, Ace Bovine, who is willing to sacrifice everything in his quest to beat the clock. Alternating in the roles of DP and Director, Canzoniero and Ricci worked in the digital medium with a small crew, comprised of themselves and the actors. This allowed them to shoot in a “run & gun” style, filming from the sun roof of their car and pulling off helicopter-like bridge shots from the Roosevelt Island Tram.

“We used Magic Bullet to achieve a cinematic film look, by deinterlacing and deartifacting our project which was originally shot in NTSC video. We also used Look Suite to convert our project to their beautiful ‘black and white’ settings and ran it through the Broadcast Spec and Letterboxer tools,” said Michael Canzoniero.
